Religious Education

Religious Education is essential for preparing pupils for life in modern Britain. It promotes knowledge of different faith and non-faith communities, enables children to identify and challenge stereotyping and helps them to become well-rounded individuals. Pupils learn to think for themselves, and understand and reflect on their own place in the world.

In keeping with practice in all state schools, Religious Education is taught according to an Agreed Syllabus produced by the Education Authority. The Newcastle upon Tyne Agreed Syllabus was published in June 2015 and states that by the end of Primary School children should have learned about Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam.

Through the teaching of R.E. we are encouraging children to explore the place and significance of religion in human life, so making a contribution to each child’s search for a faith by which to live.

Parents may, should they wish, withdraw their children from R.E. and collective acts of worship. If you would like to know more, please contact us.
