Curriculum Overview
At Mountfield Primary school we are committed to high quality teaching and learning to raise our pupils’ academic achievements, aspirations and ability to be happy, confident and successful. Our school community believes that learning should always be a rewarding, enjoyable, enriching and inspiring experience for everyone. To achieve this, we constantly strive to deliver teaching that is engaging, challenging, authentic and relevant. We do this in an environment where children are valued, successes are celebrated, and all are empowered to take responsibility for their learning and aspire to be the very best they can be.
Our curriculum is implemented through high quality teaching and learning experiences. To enhance the purpose and enjoyment of learning, half termly enquiries based on the curriculum requirements in History and Geography are explored. We base our teaching and learning on the principles of REAL learning. REAL stands for Relevant, Engaging, Authentic Learning and, as a way of creating learning experiences, ensures high quality work; provides real and authentic audiences and experiences to engage, motivate and challenge pupils; and encourages teachers and pupils to think outside of the box, deepen understanding and innovate by finding relevant links between the subjects they teach.
The learning in each subject has been carefully scaffolded to ensure rigorous progression across each year and across the school. This ensures that learning objectives are built on prior learning and provide challenge and interest to the learner.
As a result, our curriculum ensures that by year 6 all our pupils leave school fully prepared for their future. It has been carefully designed to meet the needs of all our pupils and the aims of our ‘School Drivers’ and ‘Core Values’.
We strive for a successful learning culture throughout the school. We believe that the REAL Enquiry approach is the right approach for our children to achieve well throughout our curriculum.
Our curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of all our pupils and has been created to support the school’s agreed core values and drivers. These are:
